Keiji-Kun “So Quietly” | rktomimitsu

My friend, Randy Tomimitsu wrote this great song, follow him. He is always posting his own original material and that is one of my favorite things about his blog.

Dear friends,

Tonight I went to a comedy show in downtown Pomona to support a friend at an open mic that included musicians, her poetry, and comedians. I don’t get a chance to go to live comedy skits that often but is making fun of LGBT( Lesbien, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual) people, womanizing, encouraging drinking and doing drugs, being racist, and claiming that molestation is okay is something that we think is funny? Why were every single one of these topics so prevalent in every single comedians skit?

I breathe in and I realize that most of these people must be suffering, or they are so angry that this is an outlet for them. I don’t see how perpetuating ridiculous stereotypes is funny.

And yes, it’s comedy. But womanizing is still womanizing, molestation is still molestation, racism is racism.

Aside from the topic of comedy-I challenge people to be more loving, to respect people, to love each other, and most importantly to recognize their suffering, to embrace their suffering, and not to transform it into hate. I went and listened to hate on the microphone tonight and it saddened me. It makes me sad that we put each other down, when we could be picking each other up. We could be healing each other.

We should be standing up for all people. So the next time someone you know says, “that’s gay” let them know that’s offensive. Gay bashing happens all of the time and we as a younger generation can really make a difference by just checking our friends that happen to say homophobic remarks.

We talk about what real change is all the time and I believe that real change happens in ourselves, then to our friends and family, then to our communities. Real positive change happens when we are full of compassion and when we use loving speech. These are all things that I’m working on, and I check myself everyday. I hope you took the time to read this and took some time to think about this.

With Love,
Tony

Dear friends,
I just found out about this event this morning. I wanted to share this and I hope you can make it. I feel like the occupy movement is a really amazing thing, but we must know why we are taking part in this movement and we must know that it is purely non-violent. The main thing is we have to make sure we are educated about this movement, what it really means, and what we really need to do to create real transformative change. I will try to talk at this event with whatever allotted time I get, I hope you can take a few hours out of your Saturday to come by and make your voice heard or even just listen and maybe learn a few things.

We hear the word change a lot, we hear it a lot with this occupy movement but what does it mean? What kind of change are we talking about, where does this change start, and how do we create this change?

I believe real change starts with nonviolence. We are angry, but we must transform this anger. We can’t retaliate with more anger, more hate, we already have too much of that. If we continue in a violent way then we are perpetuating this anger, hate, and suffering. I really believe that the idea of the 99 percent vs the 1 percent is wrong, we need to look at the bigger picture. We are all human and the real problem is our system. This system is flawed. So let’s have dialogue on Saturday because that’s what is missing, dialogue. Let’s create some real change within ourselves and within our community.

With Love,
Tony

The sign reads “Don’t let trash overtake our city” This was the first protest on September 28th.

These are 11 simple ways to support the occupy movement without sleeping in a park. This is a very well written article about the practical and real ways that we can create change for the people and possibly change how this system operates!

#4 “Move your money” This is probably the one step that we can all take to create this change, just by simply moving our money out of this major banks that are the root of these problems, the wall street banks. Move your money to a local bank, a credit union. Me and my parents joined a credit union in Pomona months ago called Inland Empire Credit Union. This was because our previous bank, Chase, was starting to charge fees for anyone who didn’t deposit a $500 or more work check or if you couldn’t keep a minimum of $1500 or more in your bank account daily!

Since we have moved to this credit union, we have really felt like this bank is helping us, not cheating us. And this is because of one major fact- Credit Unions are not-for-profit organizations, and they are owned by their membership. If you have an account with a credit union, you are a member and an owner. Which means you can vote on policies, you can even run for the board of directors, this is a true “peoples” bank, as opposed to the major banks like Chase, Citibank, BofA, Wells Fargo.

Read on, and you’ll realize there are several ways to support the occupy movement that doesn’t involve sleeping in parks(not that theres anything wrong with that and I appreciate everyone that is doing so and that has been fighting for so long)

Said rock-climbing, said Frida, Mack, Lily, Xavier, and Toph and said Knee.

Michelle took this photo of Toph a couple of weeks ago. I think she’s an adult now, it’s been almost a year since I have had her and she was already about two months when we got her. Today Xavier, Lily, and I took Toph, Mack, and Frida to the mountains for a walk. I soon realized Toph is an expert rock-climber and now I must take her on more hikes from now on. I could take lessons from her, I ended falling really hard on our way back down a steep cliff. My knee isn’t the prettiest site right now but I’m alright.

We did it!!!! The planning commission ended up voting 3-3. It was a tie which means the proposed waste transfer station does not pass!!!!!! So for now it’s dead but if the trash company wants to appeal, they can and then it’s up to our city council members which includes our mayor to approve or deny the matter. But until then, this thing is over. I want to personally thank the three council members that were against these proposals and that really care about our city and the people that live here. I also want to thank everyone that showed up and fought this for so long and to you, you guys are the most wonderful human beings. Thank you for standing up for Pomona, thank you for standing up against social/environmental discrimination, thank you for standing up for human health over corporate/individual wealth! Thank you!
